The Week of TWO

Back in mid-March, our family had a very exciting week involving the number TWO.

First, Will turned TWO! He is such a big boy now. He can get his own milk out of the fridge and snacks out of the pantry (whether I want him to or not). He tells you exactly what he he wants (sometimes even talking in full sentences). We even got rid of his binkies (which was soooo much smoother than we thought it would be). He loves to go to the Children's Museum and the Zoo. He is so cute in swim lessons. He loves to paint, draw, and stamp (and watch TV - oops). He is just wonderful and we sure love him.

Second, we found out that we are expecting TWO babies in October. Crazy!!!!! We had gone in for our first ultrasound, expecting to see a little baby/blob and hear the heartbeat. The doctor silently looked around for a few minutes and then said (way too calmly!), "Okay. So, here we have this baby with a healthy heartbeat. And then here... is the other one." I can definitely say that it was the biggest surprise in my life so far. I could only respond with, "Are you being...serious?" while trying not to burst into hysterical laughter. The rest of the appointment was a bit of a blur and then we got off the elevator on the wrong floor trying to get back to our cars.

Some questions you might be wondering:
Q: Do twins run in your family? A: Nope. Not at all.
Q: Are these twins a result of a fertility treatment? A: Nope.
Q: Are they identical or fraternal? A: We won't know until they are born (or later) - unless they are a boy and a girl.
Q: Do you know the genders? A: Sadly, not until late May.

This pregnancy will be quite a bit different from my first. I was planning on another easy pregnancy and dream delivery. So far, the only difference is that I have been much sicker (thank you double hormones), but I hear that I also have about a billion extra doctors appointments in my future because of increased risks and necessary monitoring. Still, we are SO excited, grateful, and thrilled to be having this new adventure!

Congratulations Alexa! What a crazy surprise! I'm excited to hear what the genders are! :) My sister-in-law and brother had about the same thing happen. They have a little boy who will be 2 in 2 months and they were surprised to find out they were pregnant with twins. She is now almost 34 weeks and in the hospital taking medicine to stop her contractions. But overall things have gone smoothly for them although it's definitely a tougher pregnancy than her 1st. You'll do great!
